The Guidelines for Retaining Walls 4'-0' in Exposed Height or Less is designed to assist in building structurally sound retaining walls, as long as the contents outlined are followed. It provides a step-by-step process on how to obtain zoning approval, the documents required to acquire a building permit, the building permit application and plan review process, fee calculations, and inspection procedures for retaining walls with the following conditions:
• Exposed height of 4’-0” or less.
• No surcharge load from adjacent structures or driveways.
• No problem soils
If any or all of the above conditions are not met, refer to the Checklist for Retaining Wall Submissions and Inspection Requirements.
