What is Senior Centers Without Walls?
Senior Centers Without Walls brings the programs, activities, and connections of a traditional senior center directly into the community. Instead of requiring older adults to travel to a fixed location, we bring services into neighborhoods across Prince William County.
This model allows us to reach more residents, especially those who may not be able to access one of our two senior centers, while still providing meaningful opportunities to stay active, engaged, and connected.
Who is it for?
This program is designed for adults age 55+ who may face barriers to attending a traditional senior center, including:
- Limited transportation options
- Mobility or health challenges
- Caregiving responsibilities
- Living in areas without a nearby senior center
At the same time, any older adult in the community is welcome to participate.
How does it work?
Programs are hosted in convenient community locations such as:
- Libraries
- Community centers
- Houses of worship
- Partner organizations and local gathering spaces
We work closely with community partners to bring programming where older adults already live and gather. Offerings are scheduled at different locations throughout the County and will continue to expand over time.
What kind of programs are offered?
Senior Center Without Walls offers a variety of activities that support health, independence, and social connection, including:
- Fitness and movement classes
- Nutrition education and wellness workshops
- Evidence-based programs that support healthy aging
- Technology classes to build digital skills
- Creative arts and enrichment activities
- Games and social activities such as cards, bingo, and chess
- Educational presentations on topics important to older adults
Programming will continue to evolve based on community interest and feedback.
Is there a cost?
No. All Senior Center Without Walls programs are free of charge.
Why are we doing this?
Prince William County’s older adult population continues to grow, and we know not everyone can access services in a traditional setting. This program allows us to meet residents where they are, reduce barriers, and expand access to the same high-quality programming offered at our senior centers.
