In-Home assistance helps older adults live at home for as long as possible, given the limits of their physical condition. Assistance covers a wide range of programs and services that can often delay the need to move into another setting, such as an assisted living facility or nursing home. The Prince William Area Agency on Aging provides a variety of programs and services to older adults who would like to remain in their home:
**The Agency on Aging Personal Care Program is at capacity and is not accepting new clients at this time.**
PERSONAL CARE
Personal Care services provide personal assistance, stand-by-assistance, supervision or cues for persons with the inability to perform one or more of the following activities of daily living: eating, dressing, bathing, toileting, grooming, transferring in and out of bed/chair or walking. For an assessment contact the Prince William Area Agency on Aging at 703-792-6374.
CARE COORDINATION
Care coordination services help older adults and their caregivers navigate the long-term care services system and make decisions about personal care. Individuals are assisted in identifying needs, developing service plans, arranging and coordinating services, and monitoring progress.
MEALS ON WHEELS
Home Delivered Meals popularly known as "Meals on Wheels," are nutritious meals delivered to the homes of older persons who are homebound. Meals are prepared at the senior center and are delivered by volunteers. Meals are delivered Monday through Friday with emergency shelf stable meals provided in the event that hot meals cannot be delivered. A suggested minimum donation of $1.50 per meal is requested. To see if you are eligible contact the Prince William Area Agency on Aging at 703-792-6374.
CARE REGISTRY
The Prince William Area Agency on Aging maintains an ongoing list of self-employed individuals who offer in-home care to adults on an ongoing basis. The Care Registry is available to persons needing companionship and assistance with daily living tasks such as housekeeping, grocery shopping, meal preparation, supervision of medications and friendly visitor services. Fees charged for services are negotiated between the companion and the potential employer themselves.
The Prince William Area Agency on Aging does not, in any way, certify, train, license or interview persons listed with the Care Registry. It is the responsibility of the prospective employer of a companion to determine the suitability of any person listed, and to hire, give directions and discharge a companion.
(Individuals who file with the Care Registry remain independent contractors, and are not employees of the Prince William Area Agency on Aging or Prince William County.)
Copies of the Care Registry can be picked up, mailed or emailed upon request. Request a copy by calling (703) 792-6374 or emailing [email protected].
