Juvenile Detention Center

Our purpose is to provide a safe, secure, and supportive environment for court-involved youth with the goal of promoting individual growth through education and empowerment.

The detention center was established to provide secure custody to juveniles between the ages of 10-17 who are criminally charged pending court adjudication, waiting for transfer to another facility or an appropriate placement. It is the philosophy of the Agency to provide a safe and humane environment. All juveniles will be presented the following evidence informed services while maintaining the level of security necessary to ensure public safety:

  • Education (Prince William County Public Schools System)
  • Life Skills Development
  • Pro-Social Development
  • Family Engagement
  • Behavior Management/Incentive Program
  • Individual/Group Counseling
  • Medical and Mental Health Services

Zero Tolerance Policy

Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center has a zero tolerance for the commission of sexual abuse and harassment against any youth in its custody by another youth or by its staff/volunteers. Sexual abuse and harassment will be referred for investigation of child abuse and criminal conduct to law enforcement and Child Protective Services in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

Community Placement Program

The Community Placement Program (CPP) provides a highly structured setting for up to 8 male juveniles that are committed to The Department of Juvenile Justice. The program uses evidence base curriculums to address the following areas:

  • A sophisticated behavior modification system
  • Anger management
  • Substance abuse
  • Pro-social development
  • Life skills development
  • Peer refusal skills
  • Job readiness skills
  • Trauma-informed mental health

The Treatment needs are addressed through a combination of individual, group, and family therapy, as needed. Additionally, re-entry planning, and family engagement are essential program elements that are utilized to enhance the juvenile’s successful adjustment to community re-entry.
