Prince William County Taxpayer Attention and Advocacy

  • About Us

The Taxpayer Attention and Advocacy (TAA) Team operates as an independent unit within the Tax Administration Division of Prince William County. Our purpose is to uphold taxpayers’ rights as outlined in the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, assisting with issues that have not been resolved through standard channels to ensure fair treatment.

    Our Mission

We aim to view the Tax office from the taxpayer’s perspective, guarantee that all taxpayers are treated equitably and courteously, and consistently adhere to the Taxpayer Bill of Rights.

    What We Do

The TAA Team aims to enhance the taxpayer experience by nurturing a taxpayer-centric approach to customer service and offering clear and user-friendly resources to educate taxpayers on tax obligations. We collaborate closely with Prince William County’s Communications Department to produce accurate and accessible content such as brochures, videos, and other informative materials covering various tax topics, including personal property tax, business licenses, tangible tax, real estate tax, exemptions, and tax relief. These resources are available on the Tax Administration website.

We oversee policy adherence, ensure that all staff members follow established standardized procedures, and suggest process improvements as needed. We also stay abreast of legislative changes affecting tax policy to make policy recommendations in response to changes in the Virginia Code.

Our team conducts internal risk assessments by reviewing phone and email data, account adjustments, and adherence to policies and procedures to ensure accuracy in processes and the information staff provides. When discrepancies are identified, we assist staff with correcting them and recommend or provide additional training.

Additionally, we assist with complex or escalated issues that have not been resolved through regular channels. We perform thorough reviews of accounts, communication between the Tax Administration Division and the taxpayer, and ensure all information is accurate and compliant with Virginia Tax laws.
