Are you planning your next road trip or exploring ways to prevent the dreaded summer slide? Prince William Public Libraries’ Launchpads are a great option. These small pre-loaded tablets offer parents and guardians the comfort of allowing their children to learn and read on a mobile device without being on the internet. There are no downloads, no need for Wi-Fi, and – with just a quick charge – these entertaining devices are also educational. Best of all – they can be checked out for free with your library card for three weeks.
Launchpads are a safe alternative for parents who want to give their kids a device to pass the time on road trips, vacations, or just a few minutes of quiet downtime. There are other uses for these devices.
Our newest batch of Launchpads are geared specifically to aid in early learning for reading and math, as well as English language learning for new speakers. These include several Dr. Seuss books formatted to aid in learning to read and pronounce basic English words. Recent studies suggest that school-age children lose about 20 percent of what they learned in reading during the school year during summer break. To help support learning over the summer, we also have added School Prep titles, which provide a fun and interactive way for students to remain engaged and prepared with various subjects.
And there are also language-learning Launchpads for Spanish, French, Italian, and Russian, along with some English-language basics. These products provide interactive learning at the basic that level new language learners benefit from.
Come to your local library and check out some of these user-friendly, fun learning tools today. You can also place a hold by searching “Launchpad” on our Online Catalog.
