Department Overview

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The mission of the Department of Transportation is to consistently improve the transportation network and meet the needs of our growing community.

Our goals include easing the flow of traffic and improving travel within Prince William County; providing transportation options for residents and visitors and creating and maintaining safe traveling conditions.

In order to meet these goals, we work with a wide variety of local, regional, state and federal partners. In addition, we manage Capital Improvement Projects and work with the Board of County Supervisors to find effective solutions that resolve transportation issues.

ABOUT TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Transportation is an important issue for the residents of Prince William County. The Department of Transportation coordinates local, regional, and state efforts to improve the ways we get around. Our engineers work to implement measures that protect drivers and pedestrians.

CAPITAL PROJECTS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

The Capital Projects Design and Construction Division manages the design and construction administration of multi-modal transportation projects as well as Mega Roadway projects in the county funding through local, state, and federal funds. The Division also manages the Transportation & Roadway Improvement Program that administers small-scale projects receiving funding from the County's Transportation & Roadway Improvement Program (TRIP). This program is conducted under the TRIP Program Guidelines.

COMMUTER LOTS

To help our citizens improve their commutes the Department of Transportation encourages drivers to consider carpooling and ridesharing. The Potomac Rappahannock Transportation Commission and Virginia Railway Express offer a variety of commuting options, such as local and commuter bus and rail service. These options strive to improve the speed and convenience of travel.
