Litter Control

Since the fall of 1997, the County's Litter Control Crew has played a vital role in supporting residents to maintain safe and clean communities. Working along major roadways and at illegal dump sites, the crews ensure the proper disposal of litter, debris and trash. The Litter Crew works tirelessly regardless of weather conditions, summer through winter and rain or shine. Their hard work significantly enhances the county's quality of life on a daily basis.

LITTER PREVENTION CAMPAIGN

Community members will learn about litter's affects on their surrounding environment from none other than the ever so mischievous "Trashy the Racoon". Watch the latest installment of the #LitterFreePWC video series below and subscribe to the County's YouTube Channel to keep up-to-date with all the happenings in the County.

By eliminating unwanted litter and debris from public areas, this program greatly contributes to enhancing the county's character. This effort makes Prince William County more appealing and welcoming to all. The primary aim of the litter program is to enhance the community's appearance and reputation in areas where state highway crews (VDOT) and local groups are unable to intervene.

The Litter Crews diligently follow a schedule to clean roadways daily within the State right-of-way and clear garbage from illegal dumpsites on public property. Help keep the Litter Control Crew safe by SLOWING DOWN and MOVING OVER If you see Litter Signage, Litter Vehicles or the Crew working along the roadway.

GET INVOLVED

Citizens and businesses can make a big difference in the community by helping contribute to reducing litter. As such the Solid Waste Management Division partners with non-profit organization, Keep Prince Willaim Beautiful (KPWB) to aid in providing a clean and litter-free community.

"For more than 30 years, KPWB has served as the community’s resource for litter cleanups. Whether along the Route 1 corridor, supporting a community group or tending to an area that has been long neglected, KPWB can support cleanups of any size within the county."

Citizen-driven cleanups and pride programs are the core of the County's efforts to keep a litter-free community. By volunteering for KPWB Clean-up events or participating in County organized events, community members and businesses can help make a significant impact in reducing litter in the area.
