The Risk and Wellness Services division manages and administers the County’s occupational safety and health, environmental, and insurance programs. Insurance coverages include property, crime and aviation, and various other insurance policies and bonds.
Risk and Wellness Services also manages and administers the Prince William Self-Insurance Group (PWSIG), which provides workers’ compensation, general liability, auto liability, and pollution coverages for Prince William County and the Adult Detention Center. The responsibility and oversight of these programs range from policy development and financial management, to premium payment and employee communication and training.

The environmental, health and safety, and claims management programs minimize the risk of financial loss to the County and the other PWSIG members, and reduce personal injuries associated with owned/leased property and/or operations. These programs are essential in establishing a risk management program to meet Federal and State requirements, and to identify and analyze loss exposures for risk reduction or elimination. Risk Management also subrogates for damage to County property and injury to County employees caused by members of the general public.
ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM
The County established Environmental Management Program subscribes to the requirements set forth by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality’s (VDEQ) Virginia Environmental Excellence Program (VEEP). Under this program, facilities identify their environmental impacts and determine objectives and targets to reduce negative impacts on the environment while providing beneficial outcomes, including pollution prevention strategies.
