Things are a buzzin’ this spring with Prince William County Parks and Recreation, as we continue improving our parks and facilities to better serve the community. Check out what’s happening and what you can expect over the next few months.
Chinn Center New Playground
The new playground at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center is almost complete! The playground is up. Next, the rubber surfacing will be installed in the next month or two after the concrete has cured, hopefully just in time for warmer weather!
Featherstone Segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail
Work continues on the Featherstone segment of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. As part of the 20 mile stretch of the trail through Prince William County, this new trail will consist of natural surface, wetland boardwalk and two pedestrian bridges, and will take visitors into the depths of nature to explore the sights and sounds of a protected area not currently open to the public. What’s next? The boardwalk and bridge shop drawings have been approved, and bridge delivery is anticipated in the fall. Stay tuned!
Forest Greens Clubhouse
Forest Greens Clubhouse is getting a makeover! Updates are currently being made to the clubhouse to include the entrance, grill room, lobby, men’s and women’s restrooms, restroom vestibule, fireplace and the pro shop. New entry signage will be installed as well as new furniture throughout the club.
County-wide Trails Master Plan
A big project being undertaken in the next fiscal year is the development of a County-wide Trails Master Plan. This project will look at the County’s recreational and greenway trails, shared use path and on-road bike facilities, and for the first time we will also be taking a look into planning blueway trail networks along our streams and waterways. This is a coordinated effort between staff in the Departments of Parks & Recreation, Transportation, and the Planning Office, as well as the County’s Trails and Blueways Council. The Parks Planning team is currently collecting and verifying our various sources of trail data and plans to kick off the project with a meeting on May 29. Those interested in County trails are invited to attend. Stay tuned for more details to come. The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 29 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at the Kelly Leadership Building (14715 Bristow Road, Manassas, VA 20112.)
Doves Landing and Sinclair Mill Parks
The Planning Team is also working on the 35% design plan set for Doves Landing and Sinclair Mill Parks. Our first public engagement meeting, at the 10% design stage was held in early January. The next public meeting to discuss this project, and the 35% design, will be on Monday, May 19th from 7:00-9:00 pm at the Kelly Leadership Building. More information on the Doves Landing-Sinclair Mill design project can be found on the “Current Park Master Plan Projects” web page located here.
