The Financial Reporting and Control Accounting Division (FR&C) maintains the county's books and records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles, ensures compliance with the Single Audit Act of 1984 as amended, and facilitates the annual audit of the County’s books and records as required by §15.2-2511 of the Code of Virginia.

The Government Finance Officers Association honored Prince William County with a "Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting" for its Comprehensive Annual Financial Report for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016. This is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government, its management and contributing staff. This marks the 39th consecutive year that the County has received this prestigious award.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) honored Prince William County with the "Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting" for its Popular Annual Financial Report (PAFR) for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2016. The PAFR is designed to meet the needs of a broader audience than what is served by traditional financial reporting. This marks the 14th consecutive year that the County has received this award.
