The Prince William Area Agency on Aging, in partnership with Sentara Health and the Parkinson & Movement Disorder Alliance, will host an in-person workshop designed for individuals impacted by neurodegenerative disorders such as dementia and Parkinson’s Disease. These disorders are progressive diseases that affect the nervous system, leading to a decline in motor skills, cognitive function and other neurological abilities.

The free “Great Minds for a Healthier Brain” workshop will take place on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the James J. McCoart Building, 1 County Complex Ct., Woodbridge. The event will empower participants with knowledge to help them make informed decisions about brain health and reduce the impact of neurodegenerative disorders.

The workshop will provide attendees with an opportunity to engage directly with medical professionals and experts in osteopathic medicine, physical therapy, voice treatment therapy and occupational therapy to learn more about available treatment options.

Joshua Lee, Acting Director of the Prince William Area Agency on Aging, emphasized the agency’s commitment to supporting the county’s older adults and individuals affected by neurodegenerative diseases.

“No one should face these challenges alone, and this event will provide the support, connections and information they need to live well today and plan for tomorrow,” Lee said.

In addition to expert-led discussions, the workshop will help attendees connect with peers, gain practical tools for improving brain health, and engage with community leaders and advocates. Free health screenings will also be available, including assessments for glaucoma, low vision, speech and cognitive abilities, balance, grip strength and range of motion.
