Community Placement Program

At the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center, it’s all about respect: respect for self, respect for others and respect for the environment. Our Mission is to:

  • Provide secure, structured residential programs for youthful offenders committed to the Department of Juvenile Justice;
  • Focus on positive youth development, skill building and increased competency; and
  • Provide for the public’s safety by ensuring a secure and safe environment for residents.

PROGRAM DESIGN​

The Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center – located at 14873 Dumfries Rd., Manassas, VA 20112 – provides a highly structured residential program for males, aged 15-20. The program focus is on positive youth development and increasing competency in the areas of education, vocational preparation, life and social skills, thinking skills, employability skills and anger management.

The program is operated in partnership with the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice and utilizes evidence-informed cognitive behavioral approaches to build skills and prepare residents to rejoin their families and communities. Educational services and programming is provided through the Prince William County Juvenile Detention Center School, which is onsite. 

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Having a dedicated Community Placement Program team that focuses on individualized treatment.
  • Having JDC staff members with specialized training to engage youth in planned/coordinated activities and discussions related to decision making, life skills and critical thinking.
  • Providing treatment services based upon the Youth Assessment Screening Instrument that assesses individual needs and risk factors.
  • Including families in treatment through family engagement contacts, meetings and activities.
  • Providing GED prep and testing onsite.
  • Providing open-ended Aggression Replacement Training groups for more timely and efficient treatment.
  • Working with the SkillSource Group to provide Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) job services.
