Prince William County Department of Transportation Launches Interactive Open Houses to Help Shape the Future of Transportation in the Community

The Prince William County Department of Transportation will host a series of open house events this spring. The open houses are designed to educate the public about the department’s functions, provide updates on current and future projects, and gather resident input to support informed project planning and foster collaboration.

“This is a comprehensive outreach effort,” said Department of Transportation Director Rick Canizales. “We’re hoping to help county residents understand, not only what we do in transportation, but to have them tell us what they’re looking for and the kind of transportation they want to see in their county.”

Unlike traditional public meetings that focus on specific projects, these open houses represent a new, more comprehensive approach to community outreach for the department. They are intended to foster dialogue, collaboration and mutual understanding between county transportation professionals and the community.

Residents will have the opportunity to visit several interactive stations to learn how transportation projects move from planning to construction to completion. The department hopes to explain the process and gather feedback on community priorities.

Transportation partners will also participate in the events, including the Potomac Rappahannock Transportation Commission and Virginia Railway Express. They will be on hand to discuss their services and their commitment to moving the community safely through Prince William County.

Each event will conclude with a hands-on, interactive experience where residents can explore real-world transportation planning scenarios and weigh in on key priorities.

Canizales emphasized that public input gathered through the open houses has the potential to influence long-term planning decisions.

“A success story for us would be community input that we might include in our comprehensive plan,” Canizales said. “We want to make sure that we’re listening to the community.”

The upcoming open house dates, times and locations are as follows:

  • Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. inside the atrium of the A.J. Ferlazzo Building at 15941 Donald Curtis Drive in Woodbridge

  • Wednesday, May 7, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. at Patriot High School at 10504 Kettle Run Road in Nokesville

  • Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 6-8 p.m. inside the atrium of the James McCoart Building at 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge
