Prince William County Completes Beautification Initiative with Project in Potomac District

Prince William County celebrated the completion of its county-wide beautification initiative with a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the Potomac District. This phase of the project included the planting of trees along Dumfries Road, between Spriggs Road and Fortuna Plaza, enhancing the appearance and appeal of this major thoroughfare. 

The beautification initiative, approved by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, aimed to improve the aesthetics of roadways and public spaces across all seven magisterial districts. The completion of this final project represents the culmination of efforts to beautify key areas throughout the county. 

Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey spoke at the ribbon cutting ceremony to recognize the effort’s completion and said beautification helps make people feel good about their community.  

“When we have beautification, it has an element of pride in what we do. When we have beautification, it shows an element of ownership for our communities and how we want to make sure that people are proud of where they live, work and play,” Bailey said.  

Bailey expressed her appreciation to all involved in the beautification efforts, including the Virginia Department of Transportation, or VDOT.  

“I can't wait to see the flowers bloom... I thank you for respecting and appreciating the Potomac District and making it a greater place to live,” Bailey said. “We've done the work that we need to do to make sure that our citizens are the recipients of things that are good. And so, I just want to acknowledge the wonderful VDOT team.” 

Prince William County Director of Public Works Khattab Shammout also thanked VDOT, as well as the Board of County Supervisors for their support and commitment.  

“We [would] also like to thank our Board for seeing the vision... and really providing us the funding that's necessary for this program. We are very appreciative of that,” Shammout said. “The entire program was funded by FY 24 funds. All projects now have been completed.”  

The successful completion of this county-wide beautification initiative underscores the county’s commitment to creating attractive and livable public spaces, benefiting residents and visitors alike.
