PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA, March 6, 2025—Prince William County is excited to announce that five outstanding individuals involved in athletics in the county will be recognized by the Mid-Atlantic Recreation and Parks Sports Alliance with their Good Sports Award. Prince William County Parks and Recreation is a proud member organization of MARPSA which recognizes individuals through its Dennis Callahan Good Sports Awards program in four different categories—youth athletes; coaches; administrators; and officials.
The Good Sports Awards are a MARPSA sponsored program providing an opportunity for member jurisdictions to recognize young athletes, coaches and administrators who have modeled “good sports” actions and behaviors in local athletics. The Good Sports Award is named after Dennis Callahan, co-founder of MARPSA and former Director of Anne Arundel County's Parks and Recreation department.
This year, Prince William County is proud to recognize the following individuals in their respective award categories: Jayden Akpaku, Athlete; Yanira Garcia, Athlete; James Daughon, Coach; James Bailey, Official; and Kevin Driscoll, Official. They will be honored during a ceremony in Annapolis on Monday, March 10, 2025.
“We’re very proud to recognize these individuals for their positive contributions to Prince William County athletics,” said Mac Slover, who serves as Vice President of MARPSA and works in Prince William County Parks and Recreation sports service department. “Each of the recipients have earned this award for their sportsmanship and commitment to excellence in sports in the county.”
The mission of MARPSA is to develop and communicate a consistent message that organizations and their players, coaches and spectators will be held accountable to a code of conduct that promotes “good sports” and keeps recreational competitive and non-competitive sporting activities in proper perspective.
