Exciting Improvements Coming to Neabsco Regional Park!

If you’ve visited Neabsco Regional Park recently you may have noticed some construction going on related to improvements being made at the park. Four new accessible parking spaces are being added west of the main entrance that will allow easier access for people with disabilities, where they can park and take a paved path down to the boardwalk. For those who enjoy life on the water, a new kayak launch is being added providing access to the Potomac River via Neabsco Creek. A new stone dust trail leading to the launch is also being added. The trail is walk-in only (no vehicle access).

The non-motorized small boat launch will allow visitors to take their kayaks out through the Neabsco Creek which connects to the Potomac River. Neabsco Creek is a 13.9-mile-long tributary of the lower tidal segment of the Potomac River in eastern Prince William County, Virginia.

The popular Neabsco Regional Park encompasses 300 acres of natural, recreational, and historic amenities including the Rippon Lodge Historic Site, Rippon Landing, the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, Julie J. Metz Neabsco Creek Wetlands Preserve, and portions of historic Kings Highway.

The Neabsco Creek Boardwalk traverses Neabsco Creek, allowing hikers access to wetlands where the tall grasses and marsh filter pollution from the river and provide a rich habitat for great blue herons, wood ducks, mallards, sparrow and red-winged blackbirds, just to name a few of the winged wildlife known to populate the area. The walkway is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, which was established by Congress in 1983 designating an 800-mile trail network stretching from the Allegheny Mountains in Pennsylvania to the Potomac River, winding through Pennsylvania, Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia.

The new boat launch and parking construction are expected to be completed by the end of December.
