For the second year in a row, homeowners in Prince William County interested in solar energy can take advantage of the Solarize Virginia Program, which helps make the transition to solar easier and more affordable. By registering for the program, homeowners can receive a free solar satellite assessment to ensure eligibility, discounted solar system pricing, access to vetted installers and ongoing support and education. It can also save homeowners money in the long run since the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) increased the tax credit for solar energy improvements from 22 percent to 30 percent in 2023.
This program is made possible through the partnership between Prince William County and Solarize Virginia 2024. It runs this year from April 1 to June 30, 2024, and members of the community who are interested in installing solar are encouraged to sign up at www.solarizeva.org to take advantage of the program while it is available.
"Solarize Virginia is an initiative to make the process of installing solar easier for residents by walking them through everything from initial education to approvals, to installation," said Giulia Manno, the county’s Environmental and Energy Sustainability Officer.
The Local Energy Alliance Program, or LEAP, is a non-profit organization that manages Solarize Virginia 2024. It provides assessments to ensure eligibility for solar power, making the transition easier and more affordable. The organization also assists in finding vetted installers and provides ongoing customer support.
"When residents sign up, they get a free satellite estimate to make sure solar would make sense for their home. Residents are also offered educational webinars to better understand the solar industry and the process," Manno said. "The program provides pre-vetted, high-quality installers, so residents can feel confident that they are working with experienced companies. Discounted rates are provided to participants, as well."
Solarize Virginia is providing monthly webinars on what residents can expect by using the program. The webinars are scheduled for noon on April 9, 6 p.m. on May 15, and 3 p.m. on June 3.
“This is the second year that Prince William County has participated in Solarize Virginia,” said Manno. “It's a great way to support residents in helping to meet the county's climate goals by both reducing greenhouse gas emissions and reducing utility bills.”
