The spring 2025 season of our Miracle League baseball program kicks off with its first game on Saturday, April 12 at 9 am. There will be a short opening day ceremony prior to the game featuring a surprise special guest, and we will honor our Miracle League players and Angels in the Outfield Buddies. Volunteers are still needed to be Angels in the Outfield Buddies. These buddies assist players with hitting, catching, throwing the ball and circling the bases. All volunteer buddies must register in advance.
“We need up to 15 buddies each game. We are looking for sports teams (youth, adult, schools, leagues, government agencies, businesses, organizations, etc.) to come and volunteer with us,” says Mac Slover, who coordinates the program for sports services at Prince William County Department of Parks and Recreation. “Anyone who wants to volunteer is welcome. It’s a great way to give back to the community and we promise you will get more than you give volunteering with this special program.”
The Miracle League program is a nationally recognized program with 300+ Miracle League organizations across the country, including Puerto Rico, Mexico and Canada, serving approximately 250,000+ children and adults. Prince William County Parks is proud to participate in the Miracle League baseball program which provides youth and adults ages 5-17, as well as adults 18 years+ who have mental and physical disabilities, the opportunity to play baseball on an adapted field. All games are scheduled to be played at Dr. Richard Tami Miracle Field at George Hellwig Memorial Park, our accessible, custom-designed, rubberized surface field that removes the barriers that might otherwise keep children and adults with disabilities off the field and lets them experience the joy of America’s favorite pastime.
Registration for the program is still open if you know of a family member or friend who would like to participate.
During each game, every player will have the opportunity to play in the field, bat off a batting tee and circle the bases each inning. In the Miracle League, every hit is a homerun and every player scores.
Come out and join us, whether it be as a spectator, volunteer or a player as we kick off the spring 2025 season of Miracle League baseball in Prince William County. We hope to see you on the field!
