The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed October as the 39th annual National Crime Prevention Month.
The board acknowledges Crime Prevention Month each year to recognize the month and the opportunity it offers the county to cooperate with local, state and national law enforcement agencies along with citizen communities to promote crime-fighting efforts.
Recognizing the month helps raise awareness of the importance of crime prevention programs and promotes public participation in those programs that can help reduce crime, drug use and violence.
Important themes of the Crime Prevention Month program include police-community partnerships, neighborhood safety, awareness and cooperation.
The proclamation called for all who live in the county to join the Prince William County Police Department in celebrating National Crime Prevention Month.
