46 Small Businesses "Open for Business" in January 2022

In January, an impressive 46 small business owners received authorization to open their doors in Prince William County, marking the highest volume of small business owners to open with the Department of Development Services Small Business Project Management Program in the month of January, on record.

In the first quarter it is not unusual to see a rise in new businesses and stores opening. Of the customers served, 42 represented new businesses, two were existing business expansions at new locations, and two were existing business expansions in their current location.

"We are proud of the services we are able to offer to small business owners. We want all Prince William County residents wishing to start a business, entrepreneurs, startups and small business owners to take advantage of the program and call us early in the process," said Wade A. Hugh, Director, Department of Development Services. "It is very important that customers learn of any conditions associated with a space or land, that may prohibit operating certain types of businesses."

EZ Pro Taxes and Services and Orion United Professional Tax Services both opened their business doors in Occoquan. Flagship Car Wash also expanded in Occoquan and opened a new location in Brentsville! Existing community services, Adore Children and Family Services expanded at its current location on Old Bridge Road in Occoquan. While larger occupants, Rudra Investment LLC took 47,450 sq. ft. in the Balls Ford Road corridor in Gainesville and Interiors Furniture, a furniture design center, moved to 18,415 sq. ft. of new space in Stonebridge Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge.

Also, Jae Hun Taekwondo, Brenda's Hair Salon, Lovely Pet, three Subways, two driving schools were just some of the other types of small businesses to open last month.

Since 2018, the Small Business Project Management Program has served more than 1,220 small business owners and helped them open for business. As lead Development Services Agency for the County, the Department of Development Services is responsible for ensuring compliance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code by reviewing commercial and residential construction plans, issuing permits, inspecting structures, and enforcing building code requirements. The Department also manages the site and subdivision plan review and permit issuance process, administers the posting and releasing of bonds and escrows, and issues zoning permits.
