While we think every day is a good day to take a walk in one of our parks, March 30 is officially “Take a Walk in the Park Day.” So grab your comfy shoes, a water bottle, a friend and take a walk through one of our many parks and trails.
Veterans Memorial Park – 1 mile
If you’re looking for a short walk to do, at Veterans Memorial Park you will find a one mile natural surface trail that follows Marumsco Creek from the baseball fields to the entrance of the park. This trail is part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail and East Coast Greenway routes.
Ben Lomond Regional Park – 2 miles
At Ben Lomond, you will find natural surface trails following Bull Run which allow you to explore the park. The trails also connect the surrounding communities. There is also a connection leading to Mayhew Sports Complex if you want to get some additional mileage in.
Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park – 2+ miles
Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park is a 140-acre historic site in western Prince William County. The park features more than 2.7 miles of walking and equestrian trails. Among the peaceful landscape, you’ll find that wildlife abounds in the fields, woods and ponds.
Andrew Leitch Trail – 4 miles
If you’re looking to get a longer walk in, Andrew Leitch offers a natural surface and stone dust trail network that winds through the wooded area of the park. There are several loops on the north end of the park and connections to VEPCO Fields and Enterprise Elementary School to the south. The Andrew Leitch trails are part of the Neabsco Greenway, which is still under development.
James Long Park – 4 miles
James Long offers natural surface trails that follow the Catharpin Creek Valley through the wooded portion of the park, with rolling terrain and several stream crossings. To access the trails, use the parking lot near the large playground.
Broad Run Linear Park – 6 miles
Broad Run Linear Park is the heart of the planned Broad Run Greenway. The natural surface trails follow the Broad Run Stream Valley and include several connections to surrounding communities and Victory Elementary School.
Locust Shade Park – 6 miles
Locust Shade Park serves as the southern terminus of the Potomac Heritage Scenic Trail in Prince William. Here you’ll find natural surface and stone dust trails for hiking (and mountain biking) that wind throughout the park.
These are just a few of our parks that offer trails for walking. For information on all of our parks and trails, please visit our Prince William Recreation Mapper here. We encourage you get outside on March 30 for Take a Walk in the Park Day!
