In case you missed it, our latest edition of Leisure is out, covering classes and programs from May through August. The upcoming months are jam-packed with activities for everyone!
In May, Fridays at 5, our free outdoor summer concert series returns and our waterparks and outdoor pools will be opening soon as the weather warms up. Check out our pools page for hours and pricing. In June, we’re hosting a free family health and fitness day at Harbor Drive Wellness Park. In July, our 2nd annual Victory at Vets Kids Triathlon will take place at Veterans Memorial Park. And in
August, we’re hosting a Movie in the Park also at Veterans Memorial Park.

Outdoor Fun
If you’ve ever wanted to try archery or if you’re just looking to improve your skills, we’ve got a class for you. From beginner to intermediate, and even a family archery class, you can learn the fundamentals of archery or hone your skills at one of our upcoming archery classes.
Want to get out on the water? Then try our Intro to Standup Paddleboard class at Lake Ridge Park. “SUP” is a great way to explore calm lakes, rivers or saltwater. During the class you will become familiar with equipment and safe operation of boards. You will learn proper stance for control and balance, basic paddle strokes and turning techniques. Fee includes use of all equipment. Bring your own board and receive a $10 discount (must register over the phone to receive discount). Registration is taken online or over the phone. (Please note no day of registrations.)
On July 29, Locust Shade Park is hosting a Longest Drive Competition (ages 18+) at the driving range. After the event bring a picnic and your family and stay to enjoy mini-golf, batting cages, the warrior course, mountain biking and more to finish your day.

Kids Only
Historic Preservation is hosting Museum Kid Mondays for children ages 4-8 beginning in May through July. Check out page 32 of Leisure for dates and more information.
In addition to the Victory at Vets Kids Triathlon at Veterans Park in July, we have our Kids for Kids Triathlon taking place at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center on September 17. We’re also holding training clinics to help kids properly prepare for the triathlons.
Want to race? On June 24 there’s a remote controlled boat race for kids ages 6-16. Beginner remote-control car enthusiasts are welcome. The race is being held in partnership with IAM-RC Hobby Shop. Click here for more information and to register.
Health and Fitness
Looking for some activities to really get your heart pumping? Then sign up for our Family Fitness Fun Xtreme Hip Hop Step Class on June 24 at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center. Join Simone, our fun and interactive Xtreme Hip Hop Step Aerobics Instructor for a family affair. Youth ages 6-12 along with their loved ones can partake in a creative workout for all ages! Making exercise fun for the little ones and giving a fun “Xperience” for the entire family! Class is Free for pass holders of both Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center and/or Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center. ($12 per person drop-in for non-members.)
On June 3, join us for some yoga on the Neabsco Boardwalk. Enjoy a full moon-inspired yoga practice designed to match the energy of the full moon. Get ready for a fun, creative flow to build health and strength, as well as open your body and celebrate all the stimulating full moon energy. Please bring a yoga mat, blanket and water. Event is weather-permitting and may be canceled or rescheduled to June 4 if there is inclement weather. There are also free yoga classes in May and June.
