Redefining Community Safety

The Prince William County Office of Community Safety (OCS) recently participated in an event hosted by the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. OCS was part of a national event with government leaders focused on solutions to address community violence and access to federal resources to sustain these initiatives.

Director of Community Safety Wesley Dawson said, "Sharing best practices and available resources for agencies across the country provided a wealth of new perspectives and approaches to effecting community safety. Moreover, learning about successful initiatives in other jurisdictions sparked creative conversations about our strategies for Prince William County. We now have a national network of experts to collaborate with, and that collaborative spirit among partners is the key to consistent change in preventing violence in our community."

This type of convening is essential in co-producing community safety and achieving positive change in the well-being of our residents.
