The Prince William County Department of Social Services, or DSS, is proud to announce the return of the Father & Daughter Dance, a signature event of the county’s Fatherhood Initiative. The dance will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2025, from 6-9 p.m. at the Dr. A.J. Ferlazzo Building and is free and open to the public.
This highly anticipated event offers a unique opportunity for fathers to create lasting memories with their daughters while emphasizing the importance of engaged fatherhood. As a highlight of the Fatherhood Initiative, the Father & Daughter Dance aligns with the program’s mission to foster strong, positive relationships between fathers and their children.
Fathers and daughters who wish to attend the Father & Daughter Dance must register through the PWC Fatherhood Initiative's Eventbrite site.
“The Fatherhood Initiative is dedicated to equipping fathers with the resources and support they need to nurture healthy relationships with their children. Through workshops, forums, and community events, we aim to help fathers strengthen family bonds and leave a positive, lasting impact on their children’s lives,” said Fatherhood Engagement Coordinator Jeffery Faulkerson.
“Military fathers can get help in re-acclimating to their parenting role following deployment. Incarcerated and formerly incarcerated fathers can learn to strengthen familial bonds with their children following incarceration; and non-custodial or non-residential fathers can learn to develop and maintain motivation to support their children financially. The initiative can also help teen fathers develop the maturity to remain actively present and relevant in their children’s lives,” said Faulkerson.
The county’s Fatherhood Initiative, which was placed on hold during the pandemic, is being relaunched with a renewed focus on building healthier home environments. Signature programs like the 24:7 Dad Workshop and Inside Out Dad Workshop equip fathers with tools to strengthen family bonds and provide positive role models for their children.
The significance of engaged fatherhood is backed by compelling data: children with active father figures are more likely to achieve academic success, avoid risky behaviors and enjoy better mental health outcomes. Events like the Father & Daughter Dance celebrate these positive impacts while inspiring fathers to stay actively involved.
Prince William County invites fathers and daughters of all ages to attend this unforgettable evening of dancing, bonding and community.
