The Prince William Area Agency on Aging is partnering with the UVA Health Haymarket Medical Center to introduce Aging in Place and Evidence-Based Programs.
The two-part Aging in Place Workshop, created by New River Valley Area Agency on Aging, takes a proactive approach to planning for aging. Individuals are asked to evaluate and consider needs and wants as they age. The workshop is designed to guide individuals through the essentials of a successful plan to remain in the home and community of their choice, safely, and for as long as possible. Topic areas include Housing, Health & Wellness, Transportation, Personal Finance, and Connection & Growth.
“It’s really about looking at what you want and what you may need for your future,” said Prince William Area Agency on Aging Evidence-Based Programs Coordinator Kathleen Wiley. “Are you in a home that can change with you as you age? What happens if you have a change in health? If you enjoy socializing, are there places you can go? If you love arts, movies and plays, are there venues close to home that will allow you to continue to enjoy this passion? How do you get there?”
“This partnership with UVA Health is an opportunity for the Agency on Aging to expand our ‘Senior Centers Without Walls’ effort in the community," said Prince William's Area Agency on Aging Director Sarah Henry. "We’ve partnered with Sentara, Parks & Recreation, Libraries, local faith-based organizations, 55+ communities and other community partners to offer services close to where a person lives. While evidence-based programs are traditionally offered at our Senior Centers in Manassas and Woodbridge, we recognize that not everyone can come to the senior centers for a variety of reasons. Why not bring programs outside of the traditional setting and partner with other organizations throughout the service area?”
The Aging in Place Workshop at UVA Haymarket Medical Center will be presented in two parts:
The workshop will also be offered at UVA Medical Center in May during Older Americans Month:
