The Woodbridge District North Route 1 Landscaping Enhancements project with trees, flowering bushes and ornamental grasses is finished. The project is in the median on Route 1 from Gordon Boulevard in Woodbridge to the Fairfax County line.
Residents, elected officials, county staff and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) staff recently gathered at the intersection of Gordon Boulevard and Route 1 to celebrate the completion of the project, which will create a sense of community and pride that will contribute to the overall quality of life for county residents.
Woodbridge District Supervisor Margaret Angela Franklin expressed her gratitude to the work and collaboration of the county’s Public Works staff, VDOT and RIVAS Design and Landscaping for completing the project. “It is because of the tremendous planning, partnership and efforts of each of these groups that RIVAS was able to complete the project within a week once VDOT approved the project, and as you can see, the area has been transformed. What was once overgrown weeds and an eye sore is now a welcoming and attractive entrance to our beautiful community.”
Dic Burke, the VDOT Northern Virginia District Transportation Director, commended the county for the project. "I really appreciate the county for stepping up and developing this plan and implementing this landscape.”
The county’s beautification program, approved by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in the Fiscal 2024 budget, will complete similar landscaping projects in each of the county’s magisterial districts.
“This project is part of a broader beautification program sponsored by the Board of County Supervisors,” said Franklin. “I am thrilled to be part of a program that aims to improve our landscaping in public areas and thrilled to be part of a program that enhances the beauty and appeal of our county.”
Prince William County's Director of Public Works, Tom Smith, echoed Franklin in saying that there would be similar projects across the county. "This is an important project, and hopefully, it's one of many as we try to beautify our community."
