The new Occoquan Greenway Hedges Run Segment 3 Bridge was recently installed and is scheduled to be open in mid to late June for pedestrians and bicyclists alike to enjoy. The new bridge is an upgrade to an existing trail, leased for public access from Lake Ridge Parks and Recreation Association, in the Lake Ridge community near the Occoquan Reservoir. This bridge and associated trail reroute replaces three splash-through creek crossings with a single elevated pedestrian/bicycle route. You can find the bridge in the section of the Occoquan Greenway located between Hedges Run Drive and Mohican Road. To view a map of the Greenway, click here.
The Occoquan Greenway links the County Government Complex to the Town of Occoquan using a mix of paved and natural surface trails. Trail users can expect varied terrain with views of the Occoquan Reservoir as well as water access. Leashed pets are welcome on the Greenway but don’t forget to bring your own pet waste bags. For the best trail experience, park visitors should park at the Lake Ridge Marina trailhead and walk on the natural surface trail and on-street segments to Antietam Elementary School.
