Older adults deserve to be treated with respect and dignity as vital participating members of the community, and it falls to everyone to ensure that proper social structures exist so people can retain community and societal connections to reduce the likelihood of abuse.
In its June 7, 2022 meeting, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors recognized June 15, 2022 as World Elder Abuse Awareness Day with the theme of “Building Strong Support for Elders.”
There are currently 752 Adult Protective Services, or APS, investigations of elder abuse or neglect in Prince William County and the Prince William County Department of Social Services’ Protective Services’ APS Unit has the highest number of investigations per worker in the Northern Virginia Region.
