If you’ve been to Anne Moncure Wall Park lately you may have noticed some improvements and updates made to the park including new designated pickleball courts.
“There's something really gratifying about reinvesting in existing parks and making them shine again, and bringing them back to their original glory and that's exactly what we did here" stated Prince William County Parks and Recreation Director, Seth Hendler-Voss at today’s rededication ceremony for the park. "Parks like this have generated decades of memories for our community, it's where a lot of our kids and then future residences grew up playing, and we can't forget about these parks because they mean so much to the community."
The park had several recent improvements made to it including milling, paving and painting of the basketball courts; milling and paving the tennis courts and conversion of one of the courts to pickleball courts; painting of the existing concession building; installation of new fences; and ADA improvements such as paving of trails to improve the accessibility of the park.
Hendler-Voss went on to read the original dedication speech that was read in 1986 when the park was dedicated to Anne Moncure Wall, "Wall moved to Prince William County in 1939 with her husband Ewing and they owned a real estate company located in Quantico, VA. She was a charter member of the Prince William County Real Estate Board. She served on the Prince William Hospital Board, the County's Planning Commission and was Vice-Chair of the County Electoral board among other things. She was active in church, civic and club activities in the area and passed away in 2008 at the age of 96. The then Park Authority honored Ms. Wall by naming the park after her, for her commitment to her fellow citizens, preserving her heritage, her humanitarianism and her efforts to enhance the quality of life in Prince William County."
Potomac District Supervisor, Andrea O. Bailey, also addressed the crowd. “We love parks, because it gives us an opportunity to relax our minds, not just our bodies but our spirits too, and that's so important ”, said Supervisor Bailey. "When it comes to parks and recreation there's no hesitation when we make decisions for our community, so that's very important to us."
