Just for the Kids
Lock in your spring break plans now with one of our spring break camps. We’ve got lots of options!
Your child will have a blast at Chinn’s Spring Break Camp (also offering early morning/before care, or after care times for an additional fee) or our Veterans Memorial Park Outdoor Camp. We’ve also got an Ultimate Music Camp for kids ages 6-12, which will introduce them to a variety of musical instruments and concepts including piano, guitar, violin, drums, voice and movement. Looking for something else? You can view all of our spring break camps here.
Throughout the winter and into spring, we’ve also got robotics and coding classes; nature classes for the little ones (ages 3-5); game design classes for the Roblox enthusiast, and so much more!
Outdoor Fun
We’ve got a variety nature and outdoor programs coming up. From Stargazing at the Boardwalk, to archery, to hikes, and even a survival training class for parents and children to work together and learn basic survival skills, like shelter building, compass/navigation basics, fire building and more.
You kids will love our Outdoor Explorers program, where they can learn about outdoor activities like kayaking, canoeing, hiking, fishing, and our incredible archery range.
We’ve also got a variety of dance classes; swim lessons; and sports programs and clinics available.
Historic Preservation Programs
Historic Preservation always has plenty to do, and this winter is no different.
Start the new year off right with our First Day Hike at Bristow Station Battlefield Heritage Park. Join us on Monday, January 1, 1-2:30 pm with a guided hike by local historians. (Event is free.) You will start at the parking lot for a brief overview. Then walk down the 1863 Trail, and then via the 1862 Trail before walking back to the parking lot. This is a 90 minute, 3-mile hike. All are welcome to join, but please note the trail is not accessible for strollers.
New this year is a Circle Weaving Workshop. In the 19th century women learned tatting, needlepoint, crochet, or weaving as a practical past time. Join us this spring at the historic Haislip-Hall Farmhouse to learn the history of these historic crafts and learn how to weave yourself. By the end of this program, participants will take home their own circle weave to decorate with. This is a joint program with Prince William Public Library’s Bull Run Makerspace. Class will take place at Brentsville Courthouse Historic Centre, Saturday, April 13, 10 am to noon. $10 fee.
Looking ahead to Easter, we’ve got some fun Easter activities planned including our Rippon Lodge Easter Activity Trail. The Easter Bunny made his fun activity trail for your enjoyment at Rippon Lodge Historic Site. Look for hidden objects, do physical tasks, tell a joke and more to receive your eggs as you walk through the historic home. Family members may join in the fun! Keep an eye out for those special prize eggs. Bring your own basket. Timed walks for age groups, family units no larger than 4 allowed at one time. Walking along uneven surfaces and stairs. Parental supervision required. Space is limited. Advanced registration required and will open on December 12.
There is so much more in the winter edition of Leisure that you can read here. A reminder that registration for all of our winter/spring programs will open on Tuesday, December 12.
