Whether you’re looking for the perfect spot to take those outdoor family photos, or you just want to get outside to enjoy the cooler weather and beautiful colors of the fall season, we’ve got you covered. Here are five Prince William County parks you should check out this fall.
Silver Lake Regional Park
With 230 acres of rolling meadows and pine forests, Silver Lake Regional Park is a beautiful place to spend the day. The park features a 23-acre lake fed by Little Bull Run Stream; a canoe and kayak launch for non-motorized boats (bring your own – no rentals available); bank, pier and boat fishing; picnic areas; and four miles of multipurpose trails, shared by equestrians and hikers. Please note Silver Lake opens at 7 am and closes at sunset. If you visit the park, please be sure to “Leave No Trace” as there are no trash cans so whatever you bring into the park you must take out with you.
Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park
Located at the corner of Iron Brigade Unit Avenue and Tenth Alabama Way, Bristoe Station Battlefield Park is a 140-acre historic site in western Prince William County. The park is a great place to take in some history while enjoying the peaceful landscape. It has also become a popular spot to take outdoor family photos.
The park features more than 2.7 miles of walking and equestrian trails that are a mixture of gravel, grass and wooden walkways with historic markers along the way. The trails are child friendly, as well as dog and horse friendly. Wildlife also bounds in the fields, woods and ponds.
The parks and trails are open every day from sunrise to sunset free of charge. You can also take a guided tour, which are offered at 11 am, 1 pm and 3 pm on the second and fourth weekend of the month from May through October. Special group tours can be arranged by calling (703) 366-3049. Please note there are no restrooms, concessions or camping facilities on site.
Rollins Ford Park
Located off Vint Hill Road, the newly opened Rollins Ford Park features a basketball court, three dog parks, a custom farm-themed destination playground, two picnic pavilions, grass fields for soccer and lacrosse (currently closed), a comfort station, walking trails and a water bottle filling station along with water fountains, including one for pets. You can learn more about this beautiful new park here.
Neabsco Regional Park
Neabsco Regional Park has so much to offer with plentiful nature encompassing 300 acres along with recreational and historic amenities. These amenities include Rippon Lodge Historic Site, Rippon Landing, the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail, Julie J. Metz Neabsco Creek Wetlands Preserve and the popular Neabsco Creek Boardwalk, which sees thousands of visitors each year. Many come to the Boardwalk to bird watch or take in the other wildlife they can spot there such as beavers, muskrats, bald eagles or snapping turtles to name a few. Others come to simply enjoy nature and the beautiful scenery, take a walk or attend a special event or program, such as yoga, boardwalk hikes or stargazing.
The park also offers several outdoor workout stations, a playground and a pavilion with a grill, available on a first come, first served basis.
Harbor Drive Wellness Park
Located off Minnieville Road in Lake Ridge, Harbor Drive Wellness Park is the first dedicated wellness park in the county's Occoquan District with universal fitness equipment accessible to people of all ages and physical abilities. The park is situated on 2.5 beautiful acres and includes the county's first fully accessible playground, meadows, a pollinator garden and a looped walking trail. The park, converted from an underutilized community parking lot, is connected to Kaiser Permanente's new medical campus off Caton Hill Road via a one mile shared-use path.
