While it’s hard to believe we’ll soon be heading into the fall season and counting down the days until the end of the year, there is still plenty of time left and plenty of fun to be had in Prince William County. Here’s a glance at what’s available in the newly released fall issue of Leisure.
What’s new?
Want to put your mountain biking skills to the test? Then come check out our new mountain bike skills trail at Locust Shade Park. The trail officially opened last winter thanks to community partners, the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE), whose volunteers logged over 1,000 hours working to clear deadfall, mark, dig and build walkways and trails. The trail has features for both beginner and advanced riders.
Looking to enjoy the day outside with the family? The new Harbor Drive Wellness Park features a universal playground, meadows, a pollinator garden and a looped walking trail. Or spend the day playing some disc golf this fall at the new 18-hole disc golf course at Forest Greens Golf Club which will soon be open to the public. Stay tuned for more details.
Adapted Recreation
Baseball is back! Our wonderful Miracle League Program is back this fall. The Miracle League brings the sport of baseball to youth and adults (ages 5-23) with mental or physical disabilities. It gives participants the opportunity to play baseball regardless of their ability so they can experience hitting a ball, throwing and catching, and of course scoring a run. Games are played on an accessible, custom-designed rubberized surface field at Miracle Field located at George Hellwig Park.
We’re also offering a Basketball Skills Training Program at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center for athletes with disabilities. The program is designed to help participants improve their shot, get a better defensive stance, work on dribbling skills, and make crisper passes.

Get Outside and Get Active!
For children who are up for the challenge, the 8th annual Kids for Kids Triathlon will take place on September 18. A training clinic is also available to help kids prepare for this challenging and fun event.
For adults, the offerings are plentiful – from kayaking to paddleboarding, to hikes, and even painting in the park. There is no excuse to not get outside and enjoy the fall weather.
For the adventurers, our Wilderness Women 2-day overnight program will introduce participants to various activities and skills needed to enjoy and be prepared for the great outdoors. Courses include plant identification, backpacking, camp cooking, fishing, archery and more. The workshops offer hands-on instruction in a fun and nonthreatening learning environment.
You can check out all of our nature/outdoor offerings here.

We hope you’ll also make time to join us during the holidays for some fun activities because we have plenty lined up! For children we’ve got Baking for the Holidays classes, along with our Great Pumpkin Party for families where you’ll come in costume and enjoy some games, dancing, crafts and yummy snacks.
The holidays will be brighter thanks to our holiday light show at the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk. Or join us for Holiday Evenings at Rippon Lodge where you can enjoy the ambiance of the season by taking one of Holiday through the Ages tours at night. These special evening tours include music and period lights inside the historic home and along the grounds. Santa will also make an appearance at Rippon Lodge on December 10.
