Explore Winter in Our Parks with these Outdoor Programs

Grab your coat, put on your hat and gloves, and make plans to join us outdoors this winter to explore some of our parks. When there’s snow on the ground the surroundings are extra beautiful, so we encourage you to snap some pictures along the way! Registration is open for the following winter to spring programs—we hope to see you outside!

Winter Waterfowl
Walk through beautiful Veterans Memorial Park with Master Naturalist Candice Lowther in search of waterfowl in their winter habitat. Loons, geese, and mergansers are some of the feathered friends we hope to see. Bring your binoculars and camera, you don't want to miss a thing. Register now to join us on Saturday, February 8, 8-10 am.

Winter in the Park
Children ages 5-10 will enjoy this guided hike at James Long Park. Led by a naturalist, kids will learn what life is like for the animals and plants in the winter. This program is designed for children to attend with a parent or guardian. (Fee is per child). Program takes place on Saturday, February 15, 10 am – noon. Register today.

Active Adults Hikes
Come out and explore Ben Lomond Regional Park this winter at one of our naturalist guided hikes. Discover the various birds, plants, and natural phenomena that emerge during the late winter and early spring seasons. Each hike promises the chance to see something new and exciting! Springtime Nature Hike
Spring doesn’t officially begin until March 20 but the sights and sounds of spring often start to appear by early March. Children ages 5-10 can experience the animals and plants of Silver Lake Park that are gearing up for the spring season during this guided hike on Saturday, March 8, 10 am-noon. This program is designed for children to attend with a parent or guardian. (Fee is per child.) Click here to register.

Twilight Trek
Join us on Saturday, March 15 (6:30-8:30 pm) at the Neabsco Creek Boardwalk for this fun family program led by park naturalists that’ll bring you up close and personal with some of the wetlands best known inhabitants—the beaver, owl, deer, muskrat and other wetland critters. After the guided walk, meet back at our warm firepit for a springtime smore! All ages welcome. Kids ages 3 and under are free. Programs at Neabsco tend to fill up fast. Get registered today!
