Donation Bins Located at Landfill and Compost Facility

Clothing, Textiles and Footwear Are Not Trash in Prince William County

The Prince William County Landfill and the County Compost Facility have clothing, shoes and textiles donation bins available at the convenience center area. The donation bins are accessible during the facilities’ normal hours of operation. 

Residents can put a variety of items in the bins. If a dress is no longer your style, the wrong color, or no longer fits, don’t let it take up valuable space in your closet — donate it! Too many pairs of black pants? Don’t toss them in the trash, donate them. Anything that someone can wear, sleep in or dry off with, can be donated — clothing, footwear, linens. In addition, apparel accessories, luggage, and stuffed animals can also be donated.  Even items that are no longer wearable can be recycled, so donate them. The donation program is a partnership with ReClothing, LLC dba Helpsy According to the Helpsy website, 85 percent of clothes wind up in the trash. However, 95 percent of all clothing, shoes, and other textiles can be given a second life. Fifty percent (50%) are reusable, and 45 percent are recyclable. In fact, 10 percent of the material in landfills is textiles. That's 81 pounds per person, per year, according to Helpsy. Donation bins at the convenience centers are a great way to extend the life of the landfill and help the environment.
