People experiencing emergencies depend on prompt responses from police, firefighters and emergency medical services to protect life and preserve property. Public Safety 911 telecommunicators are people’s first and most critical contact with emergency services.
As the “first” first responders, public safety telecommunicators are “on the scene” virtually to give emergency medical instructions and offer life safety instructions and moral support to callers in distress as they dispatch field responders and equipment to the scene.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed April 8 – 15, 2023, as Public Safety Telecommunications Week to honor the women and men whose diligence and professionalism keep Prince William County residents safe.
Public safety telecommunicators of the Prince William County Public Safety Communications Center regularly contribute to apprehending criminals, suppressing fires and treating patients with compassion, understanding and professionalism.
This year marks the 55th anniversary of the 911 service in the United States. Prince William County was the first community on the East Coast to offer 911 service.
Since 1991, Congress has proclaimed the second week of April as National Public Safety Telecommunications Week to salute telecommunicators for their dedicated efforts on behalf of the public.
The board’s proclamation urges county residents to join in honoring the women and men whose diligence and professionalism keep the county and residents safe.
