The Horner Road Park and Ride Lot is one of the largest and most used Park and Ride lots in the Region. The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently authorized a project agreement for the expansion of the lot to increase capacity and improve pedestrian safety.
The Horner Road Park and Ride Lot Expansion Project will add 74 spaces to the 100 existing spaces. The project also includes reconfiguring the existing lot with restriping to add another 26 spaces.
A 2017 agreement between the Northern Virginia Transportation Commission, or NVTC, the Virginia Department of Transportation, or VDOT, and the Commonwealth Transportation Board, or CTB authorized NVTC to use a portion of toll revenues from the I-395/95 Express Lanes to fund multi-modal transportation projects.
On Jan. 19, 2021, the Board endorsed and authorized the Prince William County Department of Transportation to apply and request funding from the I-395/95 Commuter Choice Program, which is administered by NVTC.
NVTC selected the project because it will benefit toll payers, commuters, and pedestrians. The CTB ultimately authorized and approved the $2.8 million for the project.
The expansion project, in the Occoquan Magisterial District, will not require any matching funds from the County.
The Prince William County Department of Transportation will administer the improvements.
