It’s officially summer and we’ve got plenty of programs, events and activities lined up for the whole family to enjoy. From the return of our outdoor summer concert series to historic tours and events, to fitness and recreation programs like Pilates and archery, here are 10 things you can do this month. 

Enjoy a Free Outdoor Concert
Fridays at 5 is back and better than ever! Our first concert of the summer kicks off this Friday, July 5 at 5 pm, with Uncle Drew & The Scoundrels. Through their captivating melodies and heartfelt lyrics, Uncle Drew & The Scoundrels transports listeners on a nostalgic journey through the roots of American music. 

With an exceptional variety of live bands that’ll get your hands clapping and your feet moving all summer long, Fridays at 5 provides fun and entertainment for people of all ages. Surround yourself with the aroma of deliciousness from our flavorful food trucks. Learn Some History and Play Some Games
Bring the family out to Rippon Lodge Game Day to explore history through fun, historic games and activities. Join us on Monday, July 8 from 10 – 11 am. Programs include outdoor and indoor experiences. All ages are welcome. Get tickets here.

Try Gentle Pilates Reformer
Register today to experience this lower intensity beginner Pilates Reformer class ideal for beginners, older adults and for those who are recovering from an injury or post rehab surgery. The class goal is to improve, maintain or restore physical function. Sessions include mobility work, stretching and strengthening exercises. These classes will help you to improve your posture, core strength, flexibility and a highlighted focus on improving balance as this is such an important part of overall health as we age. Class runs Wednesdays, from July 10 – August 28 at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center

Learn to Lift
Learn and perform the fundamentals of weightlifting with a Certified Personal Trainer at Chinn Aquatics & Fitness Center. This workshop is designed for lifting enthusiasts of ALL levels. Whether you are new to weights, or an experienced lifter, this workshop will teach you the techniques for success. Class takes place on Saturday, July 13, 1:30 – 3 pm. Register here

Learn Archery as Family
Are you looking for a great activity your whole family will have fun learning together? Then come out to the park, enjoy the outdoors and spend time learning archery. This program focuses on archery fundamentals. Each participant is taught range rules, bow and arrow safety, correct form and stance from our certified instructors. All equipment is provided. $35.00 per person. Register today to join us on July 13 and 14, 6:30 – 8:30 pm at Veterans Memorial Park.

Go on a Historic Walking Tour
Join local historians for a special walking tour of the historic town of Nokesville, a small agricultural town with a rich history. Tour will depart from the Renaissance Montessori School located at 12625 Fitzwater Dr., Nokesville, VA. Come join us on Friday, July 19, 7 -8 pm. Learn more here.

Sell Your Stuff at a Yard Sale
Clean out your closet and/or shop at our community yard sale. We provide you with a spot and a locally advertised event. Used household items only. No commercial sales, live flowers or food and drink sales of any kind. Must reserve space in advance. Yard sale will be held Saturday, July 20, 7 am – 1 pm, at Pat White Center at Ben Lomond. Join a Painting Class
Are you searching for a night out with friends? Does your inner DIY spirit crave a fun new project without the hassle of buying supplies and making a mess at your place? Come join us for an evening of painting and fun on Friday, July 26, 6 -7:30 pm. We will serve light appetizers as well as non-alcoholic beverages (mocktails) and bottled water. This event requires no prior experience, and all supplies will be provided for you. This is an alcohol-free event. Class will be held at Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center. Sign up here.

Spend the Night in Jail
Yes, you read that right. You can sign up to spend the night at the historic Brentsville Jail. From 1822 – 1893, Brentsville was the center of law and order for Prince William County. The jail held prisoners accused of various crimes from theft, poisoning and murder while awaiting trial in the courthouse. Spend the night in the 202-year-old building while learning about crime and punishment at Brentsville with a mock trial, evening tour and ghost stories around the campfire before settling in for the night in one of the cells. Participants must bring their own sleeping materials. There will be up to five people in a cell. Reservations are required and includes a light breakfast. Ages 18+. Register here if you dare brave this “unique” experience. The overnight will take place Saturday, July 20 – Sunday.

Watch a Magic Show
Bring the whole family out to watch Zig Zag’s hilarious and spectacular Magic Variety Show on Thursday, July 25, 10:30 – 11:30 am, at Locust Shade Park’s Jean C. Smith Amphitheater. Guaranteed laughs. Expect puppetry, music, magic and more. Tickets required. General Admission (ages 2 yrs and up) – $5.50/per person; group Rate (10 people or more) –$4.50/per person.
