​Generally, Prince William County government agencies are open Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Because some processes may take extended periods of time, Prince William County encourages customers to plan ahead and arrive as early as possible to conduct your business in a timely manner. In addition, some agencies provide additional hours on evenings and weekends. When unsure about hours, please call the agency before you visit.

The Police Department, Department of Fire and Rescue, Public Safety Communications Office (911 Call Center), Homeless Shelter, Juvenile Detention Center, Juvenile Emergency Shelter, Adult Detention Center Community Services Emergency Services Division and Child Protective Services operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Prince William County Courts,  Landfill, Libraries and Prince William County Public Schools each maintain a different closing schedule. Please contact these offices directly for their schedules.
