The community has spoken and a new playground design has been selected! Build Week for the new playspace at Fairmont Park will take place October 23 - 26 and we need your help to complete the project! KABOOM!, AWS In Communities and Prince William County Department of Parks & Recreation (“DPR”) invite you, your family and friends to help us build the new playspace during Build Week, October 23 - 26. Building an entire playground is no easy feat. It will take several days and over 100 volunteers to get the job done! Can we count on you?
WHAT TO EXPECT
- October 23: Build Week Kickoff Event with Prince William Parks & Recreation, KABOOM! and AWS In Communities onsite! Get the full scoop on the work area, your volunteer duties, pickup any tools and supplies needed
- October 23-25: Prep Days (help prepare the playspace for the playground equipment. Work is available for volunteers of all levels of skill and ability. Sample activities include: assembling play equipment, mixing concrete, and painting murals
- October 26: Build Week Celebration! Finish the playspace project; DPR's Show Mobile will be onsite with music to keep you energized while you work
- All tools, safety glasses and gloves will be provided
- Please wear comfortable, appropriate work attire and closed-toe shoes
- Activities for children will be scheduled in a separate area away from the construction zone. *Parent/Guardian must be present with child(ren).* Children are not required to wear any safety gear.
- Lunch, snacks and water will be provided throughout the day to all volunteers and children
- Food and water donations welcome
- Volunteers must be 18+ older. Volunteers ages 14+ may tag along and participate but volunteers older than 18 years old are preferred.
