Office of the County Attorney

Overview

MISSION

Consistent with this Office’s commitment to professionalism, the County Attorney’s Office endeavor to provide only the highest quality legal services to the Board of County Supervisors, as well as County government staff in the performance of their duties. The Office functions as both advisor and advocate as it pursues the Board's goals while remaining dedicated to principles of ethical behavior, efficiency and accountability.

 

GENERAL TASKS

This Office represents, first and foremost, the Board of County Supervisors and County agencies in all civil matters. For example, this includes but isn’t limited to representing the following County offices, departments and entities:

  • The Board of County Supervisors
  • County Executive's Office
  • Police, Fire & Rescue
  • Department of Social Services
  • Prince William Self-Insurance Group
  • Other County entities

The Office also drafts and prepares County ordinances and legislative proposals; defends and brings actions in which the County shall be a party; and in other matters, advises and represents the general County government.

The County Attorney’s Office cannot provide legal advice, legal assistance, or legal representation to members of the public, businesses, or private organizations (ex.
