The Prince William County Government Internship Program creates an opportunity to engage students in a wide variety of educational institutions, at the undergraduate level, to showcase their talents and backgrounds while experiencing public service in local government. Mission
The Prince William County Government Internship Program will provide students exposure to the diverse workforce opportunities available throughout the county government. The program will provide an exploration of career pathways for student interns looking toward their future. The participants will receive exposure to the application of essential skills and principles utilized by successful employees. Our mission is to create flexible and immersive pathways to enhance the pipeline of diverse talent and build more equitable and inclusive workplaces and communities.
Program Details
Prince William County's Internship Program will operate with the following principles:
Focus on meaningful and collaborative work
Clearly identify work activities for each position
Promote learning for the intern and agency employees.
Include short-term projects or assignments where interns can learn how to make a meaningful impact.
Inclusion of weekly site visits and, Lunch & Learn sessions with County leadership.
Allow for rotations (as appropriate) to the intern role, agency department(s), and the interns’ skills.
The internships are available to Undergraduate students, enrolled in tertiary education, streams (but have not yet graduated).
The Internship will last eight (8) weeks.
Interns will be responsible for a collaborative capstone project to be presented at the program's commencement ceremony.
Interns will be hired as wage earners and will be scheduled to work a maximum of 37.5 hours per week and will work on-site each day
Interns will be paid set to a flat rate of $18 per hour and do not earn wages on federal holidays.
Interns will be expected to meet all assigned work hours of the program. Absences in excess of three (3) days will result in their dismissal from the program.
Eligibility to Participate in the Program
Current students in an accredited college (including two (2) and four (4)-year colleges/universities, community colleges, and junior colleges); professional, technical, vocational, and trade school; or other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate.
Must be aged 16 or older at the time of application.
Able to provide own transportation to the work site(s).
Possess a legal right to work in the United States.
Able to commit to ALL program dates from May 27th through July 18th (the County is closed in observance of Juneteenth on June 19th and Independence Day on July 4th)
