Prince William County received third place in the 2024 annual Digital Counties Survey in the 250,000-499,999 population category. The survey is sponsored by the Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties and identifies the best technology practices among U.S. counties, including initiatives that streamline the delivery of government services, provide data analytics to allow decisions based on performance and outcomes, enhance cybersecurity and apply innovative and emerging technologies to county priorities.
This is the fourth consecutive year that the county has been recognized as one of the top 10 digital counties in the country, following its first-place win last year.
“It’s an honor for Prince William County to be recognized as a top digital county,” said County Executive Chris Shorter. “It is evidence of our ongoing commitment to leveraging innovative technology to deliver exceptional services to our residents, businesses, visitors and workforce.”
Prince William County was recognized this year for its ongoing commitment to delivering technology services that are tightly aligned with the county’s strategic priorities. Several initiatives were highlighted including the county’s ongoing digital equity leadership in working to resolve chronic issues of technology access, affordability and literacy through the Department of Information Technology’s (DoIT’s) Technology Inclusion Initiative; a new unified communications platform that enhances how customers engage with government leadership; and staffing enhancements to drive innovative solutions that strengthen DoIT’s ability to deliver customer-centric services that advance the county’s strategic priorities.
“We have an exceptional IT department backed up by visionary and supportive leadership from the Board of County Supervisors and the county’s Executive Leadership Team,” added Rob Mancini, the county’s Chief Information Officer. “Four consecutive years of recognition demonstrates that our unwavering commitment to technology excellence, efficiency and value has emerged as a national example of how to deliver strong value to constituents and communities.”
The Annual Digital Counties Survey Awards, now in its 22nd year, recognize the top 10 counties in each population size category. This year, 11 Virginia counties received awards, placing Virginia among the nation's top IT innovation states.
