THE OFFICE OF COMMUNITY SAFETY HOSTED ITS FIRST COMMUNITY LISTENING SESSION

The Office of Community Safety (OCS) kicked off its series of listening session on Monday, August 26th at the Chinn Park Library. This event was focused on gathering citizen feedback on transportation and pedestrian safety. During the session, residents shared their observations, concerns, and recommendations on road safety, multi-modal transportation, pedestrian safety, and more. Richard Weinmann, Traffic Safety Engineering Branch Manager for the County Department of Transportation, provided an overview of current initiatives and answered questions from attendees.

Some key highlights of the discussion included the need for a comprehensive road safety plan, expanded multi-modal transportation options, safer pedestrian passageways, improved government communication, increased investment in public transit, and better customer service. “The feedback we received during our first session demonstrates the deep care and commitment residents have for creating a safer and more secure community,” said OCS Director Wesley Dawson. Attendees also discussed the importance of taking ownership and encouraging community involvement in traffic safety initiatives.

The Community Safety Listens series is designed to meet the community where they are and listen to perspectives around key safety matters in the community. The feedback we receive will be used to inform the wider strategic goals and activities of the Office. Citizens who missed the Transportation session are encouraged to add their comments and questions to OCS’ community portal here.

We look forward to the upcoming opportunities to connect with the community at future listening sessions throughout the County.
