Get Yeti for Winter Reading

single news

Embracing the chill of winter doesn't always mean bundling up and braving the cold. Okay, maybe just a little bit to get to the library, but it's worth it. This year's Winter Reading program is designed for all ages and includes activities, programs, and prizes.

From December 1 – January 31, pick up a bookmark or track your progress on the Beanstack Tracker app on your smartphone. Complete 10 activities or read 10 books before January 31 to get a prize and be entered into a drawing.

This year's activities include finding Yeti at the library, reading a book with snow on the cover, and flexing those creative muscles by writing a short story. Or, if you'd prefer to complete the challenge by getting through your To Be Read pile, that's great, too! You can even mix it up and do a few of each.

Don't forget to attend a library program to check off another activity. Some highlights this winter include:

Rails and Tales Story Time with Virginia Railway Express: This all-ages program will stop at eight libraries this season. Our friends from Virginia Railway Express will have songs and books all about trains.

A Year of Cards: Create a stash of cards using our Cricuts to help celebrate all that 2024 offers. Birthdays, anniversaries, thank you, and holidays—we'll show how the Cricut makes commemorating an occasion easy and fun. We'll offer this program multiple times through February for young adults and adults.

Festival of Trees: Haymarket Gainesville Library's popular program is back! Everyone is welcome to create a tree from any material displayed in the Library Festival of Trees display through January.

Career Online High School 2023 Graduation: Celebrate the accomplishments of graduates from the PWPL Career Online High School program at Montclair Library on Saturday, December 2, at 11:00 a.m. Career Online High School is an online high school diploma and career certification program available through Prince William Public Libraries. This program offers free enrollment to a limited number of qualified adult students. Visit pwcva.gov/cohs to learn more.

We have many other seasonal programs available, including a Gingerbread House Workshop, Let's Craft: Orange Pomanders, Recipe Exchange, and more. Visit pwcva.gov/library to check out the Online Events Calendar and to sign up for Winter Reading. Thank you to this year's Winter Reading Sponsors: Atlantic Union Bank, IHOP, Prince William Ice Center, and Synergy HomeCare.
