The Prince William County Office of Housing and Community Development, or OHCD, will open an online Housing Choice Voucher Program Lottery for the Housing Choice Voucher Program on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only. During this limited time, county residents can submit an application for a chance to be selected from the housing voucher waitlist lotteries.

Applicants who meet the program preference qualifications will be entered into a lottery pool. If selected, they will be placed on the Housing Choice Voucher Program waitlist, subject to eligibility. Please note that applying does not guarantee placement on the waitlist or receipt of vouchers.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program is designed to provide rent subsidies to eligible households wishing to rent private market housing. For eligibility requirements, visit pwcva.gov/housing.

Applications must be submitted online through the Wait List Check System portal at https://www.waitlistcheck.com/VA1087. The application process requires all household members to provide full legal names, social security numbers, birthdates, mailing addresses and income information. If the household has no income, applicants should enter "zero" in the income field. All provided information must be accurate and complete.

There is no fee to apply, and applicants should be cautious of anyone requesting payment for application services.

This notice is for the Housing Choice Voucher Program only. Applications will NOT be provided or accepted by OHCD. Five hundred qualifying applications will be randomly selected for the Housing Choice Voucher waitlists.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program, previously known as Section 8, is funded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD. It subsidizes rent payments to help eligible individuals and families afford private market housing. Participants typically pay 30 to 40 percent of their adjusted income towards rent.

"Opening the Housing Choice Voucher waitlist is important to the community. It allows families to apply for federally funded rental subsidy, allowing them to choose different housing types and locations in the private housing market to best meet their family's needs," said OHCD Director Joan Duckett. "This program helps very low-income families, elderly individuals, and those with disabilities to secure, decent, safe and sanitary housing in the private market."
