Celebrate Spring with Prince William Public Libraries

single news

Join Prince William Public Libraries (PWPL) for a Spring Festival, Earth Day events, gardening programs, and recycling and upcycling activities this April.

The highlight will be the Spring Festival on Central Green on Saturday, April 22, from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Explore this outdoor library space and celebrate spring and Earth Day with nature and conservation activities. Enjoy a pollinator garden, read a story along the story trail, check the wind's speed on the windmill, explore the weather station, and receive a free native tree sapling.

Make sure to check Central Green's new bench made from recycled plastic bags. Last year, Central Library was the first of PWPL's libraries to participate in the TREX challenge. This year, you can drop off your bags at Bull Run, Central, Chinn Park, Dale City, Haymarket Gainesville, and Montclair Libraries. Donations will be collected by Keep Prince William Beautiful and TREX will create benches made from 100% recycled materials.

To learn more about litter and its impacts on our communities, visit Central, Lake Ridge, and Potomac Libraries for "Where Does Litter Go?" programs in April. Potomac Library will host a "Sustainable Lifestyle Series" program, offering useful tips on how to make your items last longer and eliminate the amount of trash you produce.

Spring also brings the start of the gardening season. Pollinator gardens at Bull Run, Central, Haymarket Gainesville, Independent Hill, and Montclair Libraries will bloom in April, and libraries will host thematic programs. If you are a to-be gardener, try starter kits. Dumfries Library will celebrate Earth Day from April 17 – 22 by offering "Flower Starter Take and Make" kits with a soil starter cup and native flower seed packet. Chinn Park Library will offer vegetable and herb seed kits with soil, biodegradable pots, and instructions.

Check the Online Events Calendar to see upcoming programs at your local library and Digital Library and Online Catalog to explore books, e-books, audiobooks, newspapers, premium websites, and other resources about nature, nature protection, gardening, and other topics.
