Each year, the National Animal Care and Control Association designates the second week of April as Animal Care and Control Officer Appreciation Week, when federal, state and local government officials across the country take the time to recognize, thank and commend all animal control officers and animal shelter staff for the service they provide.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors recently proclaimed April 9 – 15, 2023, Animal Care and Control Officer Appreciation Week in Prince William County.
Prince William County Animal Services Center’s animal control officers and staff are essential in enforcing animal control laws, protecting the public from diseases such as rabies, capturing roaming and potentially dangerous animals and investigating reports of animal complaints and welfare.
Animal control officers and animal services center staff answer calls for assistance, educate pet owners about responsible animal care, provide for the proper care of animals in their custody and protect homeless animals from injury, disease, abuse and starvation.
The board’s proclamation encouraged county residents to make a special effort to express their sincere appreciation for the service and dedication of animal control and animal services center employees.
