What is your favorite thing about winter? Do you love bundling up under cozy blankets, picking up your favorite book, and enjoying the snow falling softly outside? Or do you love visiting the library and trying something new, like a program in our makerspaces or signing up for the Winter Reading program?
Sign up for Winter Reading from December 1–January 31 by picking up a bookmark or tracking your progress on the Beanstack Tracker app on your smartphone. Complete 10 activities or read 10 books before January 31 to get a prize and be entered into a drawing. Thank you to our Winter Reading sponsors, Brick & Minifigs Woodbridge, Prince William Ice Center, and Synergy HomeCare.
Some of the activities include fun things to do at the library, including reading a book from the New Books shelf or attending a library program. Here are some fun options happening at Prince William Public Libraries this winter:
Winter Reading Program Kick-Off Event @ Prince William Ice Center: Join us for an all-ages event on Sunday, December 1, from 1:00–3:00 p.m. and enjoy a free skating session (ice skate rentals included), courtesy of Winter Reading sponsor Prince William Ice Center (5180 Dale Blvd., Woodbridge, VA 22193). The first 300 people will be admitted, and registration for the Winter Reading program is required for entry. PWPL staff will be on-site to assist with registration.
Spice Club: Beginning in January, this new monthly program for adults invites you to pick up a kit from Bull Run, Central, Chinn Park, Dale City, Dumfries, Haymarket Gainesville, Manassas City, Montclair, Nokesville, or Potomac Library. Each kit will include the month’s featured spice, fun facts, and recipes. Share your culinary adventures on social media and tag PWPL!
Keep Prince William Beautiful–Kids Preserving Our World Beauty Series: This family-friendly program will be offered throughout the winter at multiple branches designed to foster a love for our environment. Visit our Online Events Calendar for dates and times at your nearest library.
We have many more fun programs happening all season long. Whether you’re looking for STEM programs to keep your kids’ brains active during the holiday break, arts and crafts for children, teens, and adults, and story times and book clubs to introduce you to new titles in our collection, we encourage you to pick up a copy of Explore magazine or visit our Online Events Calendar to plan your specialized program schedule.
