Andrea Hess Receives Virginia Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) 2020 CIT Behavioral Health Provider of the Year

​Prince William County congratulates Andrea Hess for her recognition from the Virginia Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Coalition Awards Program as the 2020 CIT Behavioral Health Provider of the Year. Andrea is a member of the Prince William Community Services Board and, according to the award announcement, is receiving recognition for her "achievements as a behavioral health provider serving the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Greater Prince William CIT Program."

In addition to performing in her primary role with Prince William County Community Services, Andrea has demonstrated a commitment to the Virginia CIT, Greater Prince William Crisis Intervention Team (GPWCIT), local police departments and the community.

Since the inception of the GPWCIT in November 2013, Andrea has served an integral role as its mental health coordinator. She created a one-hour First Responder Crisis Support Class for the Virginia CIT and was credited for her out-of-the-box thinking in developing the course.

Andrea is also involved with the Prince William County Police Peer Support Team, where she helps with training and supports events. She works with the Crisis Negotiation Team, conducting evaluations when residents need assistance and following up to ensure situations are handled promptly.

Andrea is also a vital part of a newly established Co-Responder Unit, which is a collaborative effort between Community Services and the police force. Because of Andrea's hard work and commitment, the pilot program succeeded and was approved for funding by the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. She also assists the Manassas City Police Department with their Peer Support Program and Crisis Negotiation Team.   

Andrea Hess is a standout member of Prince William County Community Services. She has endeavored throughout her career as a behavioral health provider to consistently go above and beyond in meeting the needs of her community and community partners.
